Capacitor Banks

INFRATECH Capacitor Banks

The Value of the power factor of a load will range from 0 to 1.

The closer the power factor approaches to unity, the greater the benefit to the consumer and supplier.

Advantages of improving the power factor

  • Reduction in the cost of electricity.
  • Technical and economical optimization by allowing the usage of smaller transformers, switchgear and cables.
  • Reduction of power losses and voltage drop in an installation.

At low voltage, compensation is provided by

  • Fixed-value capacitor.
  • Automatically-controlled stepped bank of capacitors which allow continuous adjustment as and when the loading of the installation changes.

A bank of capacitors is divided into a number of sections, each of which is controlled by a contactor.

  • Improving the power factor of an installation requires a bank of capacitors which acts as a source of reactive energy. This arrangement is said to provide reactive energy compensation.

Detuned Reactors

  • Designed to protect the capacitors against harmonics and avoid parallel resonance and amplification of harmonics flowing on the network.

Power Factor Controller

  • Controls the connection and disconnection of the steps in order to maintain the target power factor.
